To my best friend

by Sarah
(Ohio)

In 2007 I went to a soccer tournament where i meet a strange girl named Laney. She came up and talked to me and we immediately became friends. We started hanging out together and playing soccer on the same team. In 2008 Laney began to have abdominal pain and severe constipation so we took her to the emergency room. She was admitted and after 4 days they couldn't find anything wrong and released her. She kept going back with the same problem over and over again. In April she went back with a fever, bone pain, bruises, nausea, and fatigue. The doctors simply told her that she had a viral infection and sent her home with some antibiotics. She kept going back and the doctors said it was all in her head and she was faking for attention. Well in May she went back for abdominal pain and severe bone pain and migraines. They said there was nothing they could do and sent her home. Her mom finally got sick of it and the next time she felt really bad her mom took her back to the hospital and demanded a blood test. They found out that her white blood cell count was really high so they did a spinal tap and bone marrow aspirates and they concluded that she had an advanced form of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. They started her on chemo and after 3 weeks she went into remission but 3 weeks later had a relapse and just 4 weeks after wards died during her long and strong fight.
